Musik hat die Kraft, im Kleinen zu finden, wonach wir auch im Großen suchen: frei zu sein, den Moment so zu nehmen wie er ist und zu wissen, nur gemeinsam kommen wir an diesen ersehnten anderen Ort. Frei nach Ornette Coleman: Beauty is a rare thing.
Im neu gegründeten Christian Marien Quartett stehen mit Tobias Delius, Jasper Stadhouders und Antonio Borghini beseelte Meister ihres Faches auf der Bühne, die genau in diesem Geiste spielen. Es ist das erste Ensemble, das der Berliner Schlagzeuger unter eigenem Namen an den Start bringt. Es wird natürlich improvisiert, und auch Christian Mariens Kompositionen sind vor allem dazu da, immer wieder neu erfunden zu werden.
Music has the power to find on smaller scale what we are searching for in the big picture: to be free, take the moment as it comes, and to know that only together will we arrive at that other place for which we are longing. Like Ornette Coleman said: Beauty is a rare thing.
With Tobias Delius, Jasper Stadhouders and Antonio Borghini, the newly-founded Christian Marien Quartet gathers ensouled masters whose musical performance perfectly embodies this spirit. This is the first self-directed ensemble from the Berlin-based drummer and the first to appear under his name. Improvisation stands central to the sound of this new group, yet Christian Marien’s compositions play a significant role, always waiting to be rediscovered and reinvented.
